Driver Standards
Who We Hire
We hold our drivers to a rigorous set of standards. Every driver who represents Horton Coles Transportation has been carefully vetted, trained, and approved before ever transporting a passenger.
Minimum Eligibility
Must be at least 21 years of age
Valid Michigan driver's license required
Clean driving record — no major violations within 5 years
No more than 2 minor moving violations within 3 years
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Background Screening
Criminal background check required
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
Identity & employment verification
Pre-employment drug screening
Random drug screening may apply
Experience Requirements
Minimum 2 years licensed driving experience
Prior NEMT, rideshare, or delivery experience preferred
Must demonstrate safe driving habits
GPS navigation proficiency required
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Every Driver is Trained Before They Drive
All newly hired drivers must complete our structured training program and demonstrate full competency before transporting any passenger independently.

Defensive Driving
Safe driving techniques, hazard awareness, and accident prevention.
Passenger Assistance
