Two Vehicle Types, One Standard of Excellence

We operate two types of vehicles to accommodate the full range of our passengers' mobility needs. Every vehicle is maintained, inspected, and equipped to ensure a safe, comfortable ride.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

Our WAVs are ADA-compliant and fully equipped to transport passengers who use manual wheelchairs, power chairs, or mobility scooters safely and comfortably.

Ambulatory Vehicles

Driver Standards

Who We Hire

We hold our drivers to a rigorous set of standards. Every driver who represents Horton Coles Transportation has been carefully vetted, trained, and approved before ever transporting a passenger.

Minimum Eligibility

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Michigan driver's license required
  • Clean driving record — no major violations within 5 years
  • No more than 2 minor moving violations within 3 years
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Background Screening

  • Criminal background check required
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Identity & employment verification
  • Pre-employment drug screening
  • Random drug screening may apply

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years licensed driving experience
  • Prior NEMT, rideshare, or delivery experience preferred
  • Must demonstrate safe driving habits
  • GPS navigation proficiency required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Every Driver is Trained Before They Drive

All newly hired drivers must complete our structured training program and demonstrate full competency before transporting any passenger independently.

Orientation Training

Company policies, dispatch procedures, trip workflow, and emergency procedures.

HIPAA & Confidentiality

Protection of patient information and proper communication standards.

Defensive Driving

Safe driving techniques, hazard awareness, and accident prevention.

Passenger Assistance

Wheelchair handling, ramp and lift operation, and proper securement procedures.

Safety & Emergency

Response procedures for accidents, medical emergencies, and incident reporting.
